📝 Word & Character Counter
Count words, characters, sentences and estimated reading time instantly.
How to use this utility
Enter your own content in the field above. The result is generated directly in your browser without creating an account. Check the output before using it in a published document or production workflow.
How your input is processed
Your input is processed in the open page without being uploaded to an AI service. The prompt builder prepares editable text for a separate assistant; it does not call an AI model. Keep a separate copy of work you want to save.
Helpful tip
For important work, keep a copy of your original input and check formatting after pasting the result into another application.
Understand the counts
The word count uses the browser’s word-segmentation feature where available, with a whitespace fallback on older browsers. Different editors may apply different conventions to hyphenated terms, URLs, code, or languages without spaces. Treat it as a practical editing count rather than a universal definition.
Characters are counted as Unicode code points. A simple emoji may count once, while a visible symbol assembled from several code points may count more than once. “Sentences” is a punctuation-based estimate; abbreviations and incomplete sentences can affect it. Reading time is rounded up using 200 words per minute.
Example and review step
Entering Hello world! 😀 gives 2 words, 14 characters, an estimated 1 sentence, and a 1-minute reading estimate in the tested modern browser. Use a platform’s own counter for a platform-enforced limit, since its counting rules may differ.
The counter updates as you type. It does not save a permanent document. Copy important work into your own editor before leaving the page.
