An audio-enhancement option for checking whether recorded dialogue can be made easier to hear.

Free access and current limits

Adobe’s Enhance Speech FAQ lists a Free audio allowance with files up to 500 MB, up to 30 minutes per file, and up to one hour per day. Its documentation distinguishes premium bulk and video workflows. Check the current usage display and plan before relying on those limits for a project.

The service is intended to enhance recorded speech rather than translate it into another language. Adobe notes that results depend on the audibility of the speaker and the background noise. A difficult recording is not guaranteed to become usable.

Compare a short sample before processing a session

  1. Keep an untouched original and choose a representative short excerpt.
  2. Include ordinary speech, a quieter phrase, and some of the actual background noise.
  3. Confirm that you have permission to upload the recording.
  4. Compare the original and enhanced sample at a similar listening volume.
  5. Check whether every word remains intelligible and whether the voice still sounds appropriate.

Do not judge only by how silent a pause becomes. Listen for clipped consonants, unnatural changes, missing quiet words, and changes in the background that distract from the message. If possible, check on headphones and an ordinary speaker.

When another approach may be better

For a future recording, moving closer to the microphone or choosing a quieter room may solve more than repeated processing. For an existing interview, manual edits or a different restoration workflow may be necessary. Keep the original so that a processed file does not become your only copy.

Audio can contain private conversation and identifying voices. Use a non-sensitive test and review the provider’s data terms before uploading confidential material. Do not infer that improving the sound proves a transcript or a statement in the recording is accurate.

This is a documentation-based overview with a listening checklist, not a claim that we tested the service or measured a quality improvement.
